Ortigas Malls POS Accreditation: What Every Tenant Should Know Before Choosing a POS

Picture two tenants getting ready to open in the same mall group, in the same month. One is setting up a small food stall with a handful of staff. The other is fitting out a boutique with a polished storefront and a long product list. Both get the same message from the mall: you'll need an accredited POS before you open.

They'll both nod. And they'll probably end up needing very different things. (These are hypothetical tenants, but the situation is a familiar one.)

That's the problem with mall POS accreditation. It sounds like a single box to tick, but it's really a handful of decisions, and a lot of tenants walk into it with assumptions that cost them time and money. Let's sort out what's true.

First, Which Ortigas Mall Are You Opening In?

"Ortigas Malls" isn't one mall. One guide describes the group as Greenhills, Tiendesitas, and Estancia. That guide is a few years old, so check the current lineup on the Ortigas Malls website.

Why does it matter for your POS? Because each mall has a different personality, and your needs follow your storefront. Tiendesitas, for example, is described by its operator as a hub celebrating Philippine culture, showcasing Filipino brands, native products, and local food. You can see how the mall describes itself on its Tiendesitas page. Its name itself means "a collection of little stores." Estancia, on the other hand, was built as Pasig's first high-end shopping center.

A small stall and an upscale boutique both need a POS, but they don't need the same one. Keep that in mind as we go through the five assumptions below.

Five Assumptions That Cost Tenants Time

"BIR-accredited means mall-accredited"

This is the most common mix-up, and it's an easy one to make because both involve the word "accredited." They're separate approvals from separate organizations:

  • BIR accreditation or registration is about meeting tax requirements.
  • Mall accreditation is the mall operator's approval of a POS for its tenants.
  • Official partner status, where it exists, is a commercial arrangement and isn't the same as approval.

A POS can have one without the other, so ask about both. You can read more on our page about BIR POS accreditation.

"If a provider says 'accredited with malls,' I'm covered"

You'll hear this a lot, because it's an extremely common claim. One provider announced accreditation by SM Supermalls, Robinsons, Ayala, Greenhills, and Estancia, and another lists Ortigas Malls among its accredited malls. When so many providers say the same thing, the claim alone doesn't tell you much.

What it usually leaves out is the detail that matters to you: which branch, which version of the system, and as of when. So don't ask "are you accredited?" Ask "can you show me, for my mall and my branch?"

"My POS provider handles everything"

A good provider handles a great deal. But some steps involve the tenant, and some involve the mall's own team. Someone has to coordinate the connection between your terminal and the mall's system, someone has to check it's working, and someone has to fix it when it isn't.

Before you buy, get a plain answer to "who does what?" If the answer is vague, treat that as a warning sign.

"Accreditation is a one-time event"

It's tempting to think of accreditation as a gate you walk through once. In practice, requirements can change, software gets updated, and you may add branches or products down the line. Ask your provider how they keep up with changes, and whether updates are included in what you pay.

If you grow into more than one location, add-on POS modules can bring in inventory and multi-store management, so you're not starting from scratch each time.

"The cheapest POS is fine"

A low sticker price can be expensive in disguise. Setup, hardware, support, and the cost of a delayed opening all belong in the comparison. If a cheap system takes three extra weeks to get approved, you may be paying rent on a shop you can't open. Compare the total cost, and look at how plans are structured on our pricing page.

The "Proof Pack": What to Ask for Before You Buy

Here's a simple habit that protects you. Before you commit to any provider, ask for what we think of as a proof pack:

  • The accreditation letter or listing, with dates and scope.
  • Which malls and branches it covers. Not "malls in general."
  • The exact POS version that's approved, and whether it matches what you're buying.
  • Who sets up the mall connection, and how long it usually takes.
  • Support hours, especially evenings and weekends, when retail is busiest.
  • A written quote that covers your first year.

Then take that proof to your own leasing contact and confirm it. The mall has the final say, and a quick check can save weeks.

Match Your POS to Your Storefront

Here are three example setups. They're illustrative, not rules, but they show how different the right answer can be.

The small stall

You need speed, simple training, and compact hardware. Staff may change often, so a clear screen matters. A retail POS with a barcode scanner and a small printer might be all you need, and you can browse POS hardware to see compact options.

The boutique or specialty shop

You care about the customer experience and about knowing your stock. Product variants, customer tracking, and tidy reports matter more here. Good POS software keeps products, prices, and stock organized in one place.

The cafe or restaurant

Orders come fast and slightly different every time. You'll want quick entry, modifiers, and a smooth kitchen flow. A cafe POS or restaurant POS is designed around that rhythm.

Where Divergent POS Fits

Divergent POS lists Ortigas Malls among the accredited mall partners on our homepage, as part of a partial list that also includes SM, Ayala, Megaworld, and Rockwell. We've served Filipino businesses since 1997, and our systems include hardware, software, installation, training, and support.

One of our restaurant clients, Sisig Hooray!, describes our POS as easy to use and "already accredited with malls," and says our team is quick to program a custom feature when they need one. That's the experience we aim for, but requirements differ by mall and branch, so we confirm the specifics with each tenant.

Plan Backward From Opening Day

The best way to protect your opening date is to work backward from it. Write down your target date, then count back through each step:

  1. Ordering your POS and hardware
  2. Installation
  3. Staff training
  4. Connecting to the mall's system
  5. Test sales and checking reports
  6. BIR steps and receipts

Leave a buffer at each stage. If a provider tells you something will be quick, ask for the timeline in writing. Some providers say that pre-accreditation can save weeks, but treat that as marketing until you've seen it applied to your branch.

Don't Forget the Tax Layer

Mall accreditation and BIR requirements are separate. Your POS needs to produce compliant receipts, and the BIR's new e-invoicing rules may apply to your business. Read our page on BIR updated e-invoicing, check the BIR's RMC No. 98-2026, and confirm current requirements with the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Questions Tenants Ask Us

Does my POS need to be accredited by Ortigas Malls? Many malls require tenants to use an approved POS, but the specifics depend on your lease and your mall. Ask your leasing contact for the current requirements.

Is Divergent POS accredited by Ortigas Malls? Our homepage lists Ortigas Malls among our accredited mall partners, as part of a partial list. Because requirements can differ by mall and branch, contact us and tell us where you're opening, and we'll confirm what's in place for your location.

Do Greenhills, Tiendesitas, and Estancia have the same requirements? Not necessarily. Don't assume that approval at one covers the others, and confirm with the leasing team at your specific mall.

How long does it take? It depends on whether your provider is already approved for your mall and how quickly the connection is set up. Ask for an estimate in writing, and build in a buffer.

The Bottom Line

Mall POS accreditation isn't something to fear, but it isn't something to assume, either. Ask for proof, find out who owns each step, and confirm everything with your own leasing contact. Do that early, and your opening day is a lot less stressful.

If you're opening in an Ortigas mall and want a straight answer about your setup, talk to the Divergent POS team and tell us which mall and branch.
